Queer Young Team

TAKE ME TO A PLACE WHERE

Funded by Glasgow Connected Arts Network and presented in association with The Tron Theatre, Glasgow, Sanctuary Queer Arts formed the Queer Young Team as part of the project…

Brought together from across the Glasgow region – found through an open-call – Si, Sage, MJ, Scott, Luke, Alex, Robin, Ben and Rain assembled with us in April 2022 at the Tron for a week in their main house to explore the beginnings of a devised performance, spark visual art passions and try out clowning.

These 9 LGBTQ+ teenagers [aged 12-17] had a blast for the Easter week and came together additionally for several more sessions online and in-person – forming an instant close queer bond.

This phase of the project was led by Co-Director Drew with the support team: visual artist Leo Valenti and theatre artists Gil Broughton-Stewart and Rebecca Hogan [of Sanctuary’s Young Company]

The QYT worked with movement specialist Melanie Jordan and received a Mental Health Workshop from Carolyn E Wood of Pure Potential Scotland

MAGPIE TEETH

Guided by mentoring and administrative support from Co-Director Drew – Leo Valenti – led the QYT during August 2022 at the Mitchell Library in a Creative Scotland funded arts project.

Working over three days to produce artefacts inspired by what our queer ancestors might have wanted us to know, had our history not been erased and re-written for the cisgender heterosexual gaze.

Supported by Gil Broughton-Stewart and Connie Minerva – the QYT worked with visual artists and Mitchell Library staff to explore elements of our real and imagined queer history – even venturing into the bowels of the building to renowned queer poet Edwin Morgan’s archive.

MAGPIE TEETH Artists:

Ellie Janes

Sophie Minervini

Clare Thompson

The artefacts created then formed an exhibition showcased at Kafe Kweer in Edinburgh
