National Museum of Scotland

In late 2021 Sanctuary was approached to work with the National Museum of Scotland to collaborate with the organisation and a group of young people from LGBT Youth Scotland to further develop the museum’s HIDDEN HISTORIES TRAIL.

“This trail is to highlight LGBTQIA+ stories across our collections.

LGBTQIA+ stories have often been kept out of mainstream history, so we are keen to make them visible. We are committed to collaborating with communities to make these histories better known and understood.”

Sanctuary Co-Director Drew Taylor-Wilson and former young company member Aude Naudi-Bonnemaison led two blocks of workshops in 2022 and 2023 with passionate young participants. We looked at the existing trail - suggesting improvements, we generated creative responses and even found new suggestions of items to add to the trail in the future

Big thanks to Socks from LGBT Youth Scotland, the team at the Museum and Tom, Alex, Spencer, Emily, Loki, Zoel, Ivy and all the other participants from the project!
